Notes: This paper attempts to establish the correct status of three species names in the mealybug genus Rastrococcus Ferris (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Pseudococcidae). Buchner did not describe the morphology of these mealybugs, nor did he mention any depository for the species; he distinguished between the species solely on the basis of the different endosymbionts found within them. The conclusion is that Buchner’s names are available in zoological nomenclature because they fulfil the requirements of Article 13 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature 1999)
