Weseloh, R.M., & Bartlett, B.R. 1971 Influence of chemical characteristics of the secondary scale host on host selection behavior of the hyperparasite Cheiloneurus noxius (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae).. Annals of the Entomological Society of America 64(6): 1259-1264.
Notes: Quantitative measurements were made of oviposition-related activities of the soft scale hyperparasite Cheiloneurus noxius to determine what influence the chemical substances of the secondary (scale) hosts have on the wasp's host selection behavior. both the integument and the dried internal contens of brown soft scales, Coccus hesperidum L., contained active materials which, at least in the case of the internal contents, were detected only when the hyperparasite contacted them.
