Notes: A 3-yr study showed that the major diseases and pests in the growing period of Zizyphus jujuba [Ziziphus sativa] fell into 3 types and control should be applied in 3 periods. The major disease was Phacospora zizyphi-vulgaris, while the major insect pests were Sucra jujuba, Ancylis sativa, Carposina sasakii and Ceroplastes floridensis. Integrated control measures included chemical treatment, silviculture and a mixed application of fertilizers (urea or KH2PO4) and pesticides (sumicidin [fenvalerate] or omethoate). Large scale demonstrations in 1985-86 in Xinzheng, Zhongmu and Weishi counties showed that spraying a mixed solution of fertilizers and pesticides before flowering secures a control of 96.6-98.7% for Sucra jujuba, 85-96% for Ancylis sativa and 97.9-98.9% for date ticks. Three sprayings for Carposina sasakii produced 90.5-99.5% control. The disease severity index for Phacospora zizyphi-vulgaris was reduced by 84.9-97.5%, after application of metalaxyl and Bordeaux mixture.
