Notes: Here, we isolated the male-attractive pheromone from the airborne volatiles emitted by virgin females of adult papaya mealybugs and determined its structure by gas chromatography – mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy analyses. This study provides not only useful information for the monitoring and management of P. marginatus but also an interesting exception underlining the great diversity of mealybug pheromone structures.
