Powell, W. 1986 Enhancing parasitoid activity in crops.. Insect Parasitoids. Academic Press London 389 pp.
Notes: [13th Symposium of the Royal Entomological Society of London 18-19 September 1985 at the Department of Physics Lecture Theatre, Imperial College, London.] Plants which are rich sources of nectar, such as the honey plants Phacelia spp. and Eryngium spp. have been planted between orchard trees as a food resource for adult parasitoids. Resulting enhancement of parasitoid activity has been reported in several instances, such as those of Aphytis proclia attacking Quadraspidiotus perniciosus. In addition, the planting of windbreaks in citrus orchards in Texas was given as an example of the adoption of specific management techniques which have enhanced parasitoid activity. In this case the windbreaks helped to increase parasitism of soft scales, Coccus hesperidum, by Metaphycus stanleyi, because the parasitoid's efficiency was apparently hindered in high winds.
