Poe, S.L., Short, D.E., & Dekle, G.W. 1973 Control of Rhizoecus americanus (Homoptera, Pseudococcidae) on ornamental plants.. Journal of the Georgia Entomological Society 8(1): 20-26.
Notes: Experiments were conducted to select nonphytotoxic chemical to control a root mealybug, Rhizoecus americanus (Hambleton) on ornamental plants. The tests included eight plant species, three application methods, and three separate growing media at four locations under greenhouse or slat house cover. Several materials killed R. americanus but caused root or foliar toxicity to certain plant species. Dimethoate injured all cultivars of African violet but did not injure Phoenix spp. or Syngonium spp. Carbofuran was the best material for eradication of R. americanus in a single application. Effectiveness of chemicals varied with soil or growing media and moisture content.
