Pellizzari, G., Galbero, G., Mori, N., & Antonucci, C. 2004 Biologia di Ceroplastes ceriferus (Fabricius) (Hemiptera, Coccoidea) e possibilita di lotta. [Biology of Ceroplastes ceriferus (Hemiptera, Coccidae) and trials of control.]. Informatore Fitopatologia 54(9): 39-46.
Notes: C. ceriferus was first introduced to Italy in 2001 and is the fifth species belonging to the genus Ceroplastes to be recorded in the Mediterranean. Because of the possible threat of the species to ornamental plants and fruit crops, it was included in the EPPO alert list in 2003. C. ceriferus is established in Lombardia, Veneto and Emilia Romagna, Italy. It develops one generation per year and overwinters as an adult female. The fecundity of the females is influenced by the host plant, with average fecundities of 1143.6 and 396 eggs/female on Magnolia stellata and Laurus nobilis, respectively. Buprofezin, chlorpyrifos and mineral oil recorded good control of the pest in field trials.
