Notes: [Conference held in Florence, November 19-20, 1990.] Fourteen species from the families Margarodidae, Pseudococcidae, Coccidae, Kermesidae, Asteroleaniidae and Diaspididae were collected on oaks all over Italy, but the total number of scale insect species known to live on oaks in Italy is 31. New data about frequency and distribution of the most interesting collected species are reported. Parthenolecanium rufulum, Diaspidiotus distinctus and Quadraspidiotus zonatus appear common and widespread in Italy. Diaspidiotus osborni, an American species discovered in Italy in 1984, appears to be now well established. The presence in Italy of new species to the Italian fauna (Chionaspis lepineyi and Diaspidiotus alni) are reported. A distribution map of the morphologically similar and sympatric species, Asterodiaspis roboris and A. repugnans, is given. Specimens with intermediate morphological characters between the two species were collected in some biotopes together with specimens clearly assigned to A. roboris or A. repugnans. The rare species Kuwania rubra, known up to now only in a restricted area of the western Mediterranean basis, was collected on Quercus ilex near Trento. Kermes vermilio was also collected in the same biotope.
