Koteja, J. 2008 Xylococcidae and related groups (Hemiptera: Coccinea) from Baltic amber.. Prace Muzeum Ziemi 49: 19-56
Notes: The Xylococcidae and six related families that bear compound eyes and a waxy tail tuft in male, from Baltic and Bitterfeld amber, have been studied on the basis of 150 inclusions. The following new taxa have been established: Xylococcus grabenhorsti sp. n. and X. kutscheri sp. n. in the Xylococcidae PERGANDE; Hoffeinsia foldii gen. et sp. n. in the Kuwaniidae MACGILIVRAY; Arnoldidae fam. n., with Arnoldus gen. n., A. capitatus sp. n. and A. clavatus sp. n.; Lithuanicoccidae fam. n., with Lithuanicoccus gen. n., L damzeni sp. n. and L. kosmowskae sp. n.; Weitschatidae fam. n., with Weitschatus gen. n., W. stigmatus sp. n. and W. vysniauskasi sp. n.; Grohnidae fam. n., with Grohnus eichmanni gen. et sp. n.; Serafinidae fam. n., with Serafinus acutipterus gen. et sp. n. The number of known archeococcid groups in Baltic amber increased thus from four to eleven, but eight Recent groups have not been found in this fossil resin. The value of private collections, which constitute about' 90% of the examined material, has been emphasized. The status of Bitterfeld amber in relation to Baltic amber, peculiar morphological structures in male, some taphonic phenomena and relationships within the Orthezioidea, with particular reference to tail devices and flying apparatus, have been discussed. An annotated list of extant and fossil archeococcid families, and a key to Baltic amber archeococcids have been presented.
