Hodges, G.S., Ruter, J.M., & Braman, S.K. 2000 Florida Wax Scale damage on Ilex species, hybrids, and cultivars.. Holly Society Journal 18(4): 23-31.
Notes: Potential resistance of 231 randomly distributed taxa of 2- to 7-year-old Ilex species, hybrids and cultivars at Tifton, Georgia, USA to Florida Wax Scale (FWS, Ceroplastes floridensis) populations was evaluated during 29-31 July 1998 and 11-12 February 1999. Taxa from the study that were least preferred by the FWS included those with I. crenata, I. buergeri, I. glabra, I. myrtifolia, I. verticillata, and I. vomitoria within parental lines. Those prone to heavy infections were I. aquifolium, I. attenuata, I. cassine, I. ciliospinosa, I. cornuta, I. koehneana, I. latifolia, I. meserveae, I. opaca, I. purpurea, I. rugosa, and I. serrata. Variegated plants regardless of parentage had low infestation ratings, including I. cornuta.
