Notes: This paper focuses on the chemical composition and utilization of sorrel (Hibiscus sabdariffa var. sabdariffa) as a source of medicinal soft drink and food in India. Details are also given of the toxicity of sorrel extract to humans as well as the use of the plant as animal feed or as a host of the predatory beetle Cryptolaemus montrouzieri for use in the biological control of the mealy bug Maconellicoccus hirsutus.
