Carter, W. 1951 The feeding sequence of Pseudococcus brevipes (Ckl.) in relation to mealybug wilt of pineapples in Hawaii.. Phytopathology 41(9): 769-780.
Notes: When mealybugs from infested fruits growing among wilted pineapple plants were transferred to test plants, a large percentage of such tests were completely negative. In only a relatively small percentage of tests did more than 50 per cent wilt occur. An area in Hawaii which includes the least fertile and most worn and eroded fields was the best source of wilt-inducing mealybugs.
