Carter, W. 1937a The toxic dose of mealy-bug wilt of pineapple.. Phytopathology 27: 971-981.
Notes: A series of experiments has been conducted on the relationship between numbers of mealybugs (Dysmicoccus brevipes) applied to pineapple plants and resulting wilt. Occasional plants wilt following infestations by single mealybugs. The percentage of pineapple plant wilting as a result of infestation by mealybug colonies of varying size increases with the number of mealybugs. This increase is not directly proportional to the number of mealybugs. There is usually a point on the dosage scale that brings a disproportionate rise in wilt percentage; increased dosages beyond this point result in only small increases in wilt percentage.
