Brink, T. 1996 A control strategy for the White Powdery Scale, Cribrolecanium andersoni (Newstead) -- a pest of citrus in South Africa.. Proceedings of the International Society of Citriculture I: 556-559.
Notes: [VIII International Citrus Congress, 12-17 May 1996, Sun City, South Africa.] The white powdery scale, Cribrolecanium andersoni (Newstead) (Hemiptera: Coccidae) is a known citrus pest in South Africa. C. andersoni feeds on the leaves and secretes honeydew which serves as a substrate for sooty mould fungi. Sooty mould on the leaves reduces the penetration of sunlight which leads to a reduction in photosynthesis. Population studies in Mpumalanga indicated that all stages were present throughout the year as a result of overlapping generations. C. andersoni is often found in association with Planococcus citri, Aonidiella aurantii and Cornuaspis beckii. Aphelinidae, Encyrtidae and Eulophidae parasitoids were identified and parasitism varied to a great extent. Euxantellus philippiae Silvestri and an unidentified encyrtid (probably a new genus) appeared to be the most common parasitoids of C. andersoni. Chrysopidae larvae were found as predators on the scale. Insecticides which controlled this pest were listed and advice given for their use.
