Notes: In North Africa, Dactylopius opuntiae was reported in Morocco in 2016 on the prickly pear Opuntia ficus-indica ( (Plantae: Cactaceae). In this study, we report for the first time the presence of this pest in Algeria on the prickly pear, in several localities of Msirda in the north-western part of the country (Tlemcen, Algeria). The degree of infestation of Opuntia cochineal scale tends towards an alarming threshold which causes not only the deterioration of the fruits but also a total dieback of the attacked plants.
