Notes: Following a visit to the country in 1982, and with special reference to the control of pests (including Anastrepha fraterculus, Panonychus ulmi, Eurhizococcus brasiliensis) and diseases (including Phytophthora cactorum and Glomerella cingulata) on apples, the author describes the establishment of two agricultural forecasting stations in Brazil. The topics dealt with include the areas of the country where apples are grown, the main pest and disease problems, the structure of apple orchards, the organization of the two first forecasting stations and the prospects for the future.
