Annecke, D.P., & Mynhardt, M.J. 1972 The species of the insidiosus group of Metaphycus Mercet in South Africa with notes on some extralimital species (Hymenoptera Encyrtidae).. Revue de Zoologie et de Botanique Africaine 85(3/4): 227-274.
Notes: In this revision of a group of South African species of the genus Metaphycus, the authors provisionally retain the name M. insidiosus (Merc.) for the nominal species, but, state that it may eventually prove to be a synonym. Twelve new species of the group are described, 11 from South Africa and one from Rhodesia. Five species from South Africa are redescribed, and notes are given on eight species from other countries. A key is provided to the females of the South African species. Several species of the group are of value to agriculture in South Africa, and some may be of use in the biological control of pests in other countries. M. inviscus Comp., M. obtusus Comp. and M. bartletti sp.n. parasitize Saissetia oleae (Ol.) (or species closely related to it) in the southwestern Cape Province, M. vanderplanki sp.n. is a widespread parasite of Gascardia spp. on Citrus in South Africa, and M. stanleyi Comp. is frequently found parasitizing Coccus hesperidum L. and other Coccids there.
