Notes: [Conference: 46th International Symposium on Crop Protection. Gent (Belgium). 3 May 1994.] Damage caused to grapevine, Vitis vinifera var. romi due to infestation with Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Green) were described throughout morpho-histological changes in artificially infested canes. The morphological changes occurred on the leaf, stem, buds, flower, panicle and berry. The histological changes in the tissues of leaf and stem were also described from transverse sections. The abnormal growth in the infested canes may be due to the salivary toxin secretions excreted by the insect during feeding. The honeydew secretions secreted by different stages of the mealybug during feeding stimulate the growth of sooty mould (Botrytis cinerea).
