Remarks
- Systematics: S. nanophytoni has similar morphology with 4 species in 3 genera. It is close to Phenacoccus glanduliporatus Danzig & Gavrilov-Zimin, 2014 by the tubular ducts with associated simple discoidal pores, but differs by the latter having two pairs of ostioles and one circulus.
It is similar to Coccidohystrix monicae Gavrilov-Zimin & Matile-Ferrero, 2014 and C. echinata (Balachowsky, 1930) by the absence of a circulus and ostioles and having 7-segmented antennae, but can be easily distinguished by the new species having large tubular ducts with associated discoidal pores and lacking trilocular pores on venter.
Moreover, it is also similar to Amonostherium lichtensioides (Cockerell, 1897) by lacking circulus and ostioles, having a 7-segmented antenna, the absence of trilocular pores on the venter, and the green body color at maturity. But S. nanophytoni has the tubular ducts with associated sessile pores on the dorsum, and the setae on the marginal cerarii along the mid-region of abdomen not as conical as those on the anal lobe. - Structure: In life: Adult female body in life broadly oval, 1.30–1.80mm long and 1.00–1.27mm wide, greenish in colour. Slide-mounted: Body membranous, broadly oval to subcircular, 1.21–1.48mm long and 1.09–1.43mm wide. Anal lobes poorly developed or indistinct, with an apical seta 56–59 long. Antennae 7-segmented, each 165–206 long, apical segment longest and fifth segment shortest, sixth segment with 1 fleshy seta, and apical segment with 2 fleshy seta and 3 or 4 thick spines at apex. Eyes present. Mouthpart well-developed, labium with 2 segments, about 3/4 of length of clypeolabral sheid. Legs short and strong, same sizes for three pairs; claw with a small denticle near apex; a pair of claw digitules present, expanded at apex; trochanter with 2 sensory pores at each surface. (Huang & Yan 2023)
- Biology: Oviposition occurred in mid-June. At maturity, the adult females become enclosed in a quite tough, spherical, felted sac on leaves, and lay an average of about 136 eggs within it. (Huang & Yan 2023)
