Remarks
- Systematics: Subfamily: Coccinae. Tribe: Pulvinariini.
Gavrilov (2009) revised on the basis of morphological and ecological data, the 32 species which have been assigned to the genus Rhizopulvinaria, and concluded that 29 of the nominal species of Rhizopulvinaria described by different authors are morphological varieties of a single species Rh. artemisiae Signoret, 1873.
Kaydan & Kozar (2010) disagreed with Gavrilov's (2009) interpretation and regarded the following nominal species as valid in the fauna of Turkey: Rh. armeniaca Borchsenius, Rh. diasnthi Bodenheimer, Rh. grandicula Borchsenius, Rh. hissarica Borchsenius, Rh. megriensis Borchsenius, Rh. pyrethri Borchsenius, Rh. turkestanica Archangelskaya, Rh. turkmenica Borchsenius, Rh. variabilis Borchsenius and Rh. viridis Borchsenius.
- Structure: Live adult female oval or circular, strongly convex, with short anal cleft; producing a large, very convex oval or circular white ovisac. Slide-mounted body with each spiracular pore band broad; stigmatic clefts not developed. Stigmatic setae differentiated, stoutly spinose and of similar lengths, subequal to or shorter than marginal setae, sometimes numbering fewer than 3 per stigmatic area. Marginal setae stoutly spinose, present in 1 or 2 uneven rows, each seta with blunt or pointed tip. Dorsal setae spiniform conical or setose. Preopercular pores present. Anal ring usually bearing 6 (occasionally 8) setae. Duct tubercles absent. Dorsal
tubular ducts each with a filamentous inner ductule. Ventral tubular ducts numerous on head. Legs well developed, each claw with a denticle. Anal plates together approximately quadrate, with outer angles angular and posterolateral margins straight (Moghaddam & Watson 2024).
- General Remarks: Definition and characters by Borchsenius (1957), Kosztarab & Kozar (1988), Hodgson (1994a) and by Gavrilov (2009).
