Remarks
- Systematics: Subfamily: Coccinae. Tribe: Pulvinariini. The genus Protopulvinaria resembles the genus
Milviscutulus but differs by having ventral tubular ducts in a complete submarginal band, whereas in Milviscutulus the submarginal band of ventral tubular ducts is restricted to the abdomen as far anteriorly as the posterior spiracular furrows. Protopulvinaria is also morphologically similar to the genus Kilifia, but the latter has characteristically enlarged meso- and metathoracic coxae with a distinct cavity on anterior margin, and lacks ventral tubular ducts. . (Kondo, et al. 2022a)
- Structure: Adult female pyriform to broadly oval, flat, almost translucent when young, becoming more opaque with age and developing red or brown coloration around margin; older females develop a narrow marginal rim of white ovisac material. Characteristics of slide-mounted adult female. distinctly pyriform, broadest at abdomen, often slightly asymmetrical, dorsum flat. Dorsum membranous, becoming sclerotized in older specimens, especially submarginally; small dermal areolations present. Anal cleft very deep, about 1/3 of body length. (Kondo, et al. 2022a)
