Remarks
- Systematics: Although this species is currently placed in Ovaticoccus Kloet, the adult male differs from that of O. agavium in the structure of the campaniform sensilla on the trochanter, which appear to be in a line and oval to elongate (and typical of the Gondwanan group of eriococcids) rather than in a curve or triangle and roundish as in O. agavium and other acanthococcids. In addition, the antennae of adult male O. agavium are 9 segmented, each segment much wider than long and with few hs and no caps, extremely similar to those of Pseudomontanococcus martini Kozár & Konczné Benedicty, whereas those of O. agavium are 10 segmented, each segment longer than wide and each with numerous hs, fs and caps, typical of the acanthococcid group (Afifi 1968). It would appear that the placement of adoxus in Ovaticoccus warrants further study. (Hodgson, 2020)
- Structure: Adult female oval (Miller & McKenzie, 1967). Slide-mounted adult female with: enlarged setae absent, except occasionally with 1 or 2 near body margin; hair-like setae scattered over dorsal surface; anal lobes absent; anal ring without pores; dorsal multilocular pores present; ventral multilocular pores predominantly with 5 loculi; cruciform pores present on both surfaces, conspicuous cluster at posterior apex of abdomen; antennae 6- or 7-segmented; microtubular ducts short, with 2 sclerotized areas (Miller & McKenzie, 1967).
- General Remarks: Detailed description and illustration by Miller & McKenzie (1967). Also described and illustrated by Ferris (1955a). Illustration of male in Hodgson (2020) Description and illustrations of the second-instar female and first-instar nymph in Miller & Stocks, 2022.
