Remarks
- Systematics: Foldi (1998a) distinguished this genus from other genera in the Monophlebinae by: characteristic external morphology; remarkable development of anterior part of body; presence of stout conical spines on anal region. A major diagnostic feature is the presence of enlarged spiniform setae, each with three parts: basal collar smooth, long middle section with reticulo-alveolate pattern, and apex smooth; densely present on dorsum. (Foldi, 2016)
Gavrilov-Zimin, 2018, resurrected the tribe Monophlebini (including Llaveiini (syn. nov.) within the family Margarodidae to place the genus Neohodgsonius in relation to other genera that he felt belonged in a subfamily of Monophlebinae (Afrodrosicha, Buchnericoccus, Corandesia, Etropera, Gueriniella, Laurencella, Llaveia, Monophleboides, Monophlebus, Neohodgsonius, Nietnera, Pseudaspidoproctus and Vrydagha)
- Structure: Female body elongate, ovoid, 5.00-8.00 mm long, 3.10-5.00 mm wide. Derm membranous with dense pilosity Adult male body elongate ovoid, 5.80-6.00 mm long, with numerous setae and pores. Antennae 10-segmented. (Foldi, 2016)
- General Remarks: Definition and characters by Foldi (1994). Detailed redescription and illlustrations in Foldi, 2016.
