Remarks
- Systematics: This genus differs from other genera in tribe Monophlebulini of the Monophlebinae, in two diagnostic features of the adult female - presence of ampullate setae, and in greater length of the third antennal segment than each of the second or fourth segments.
Gavrilov-Zimin, 2018, resurrected the tribe Monophlebulini within the family Margarodidae to place the genus Melaleucococcus in relation to other genera that he felt belonged in a subfamily of Monophlebinae (Gullania, Insulococcus, Melaleucococcus, Modicicoccus, Monophlebidus, Nodulicoccus, Peengea, Perissopneumon and Tessarobelus)
