Remarks
- Systematics: Foldi & Gullan (2014) determined that Cryptokermes mimosae Foldi does not fit the present morphological concept of Cryptokermes or any other named genus. They recommend further study of its position in the family. Foldi (2020) moved this species into a new genus, Mapia.
- Structure: Adult females are purple in color, enclosed in a test of waxes, gathered in groups, in large concentrations on twigs and stems of Mimosa spp. (Fabaceae). This test is broadly oval in shape, approximately 5-6 mm wide, 6-7 mm long, with a more and less rough outer surface, light brown to yellow and red spots. The internal surface of the test is covered with white wax secretions and includes some dead nymphs from the first larval stage (Foldi, 2020)
- General Remarks: Description and illustration of adult female by Foldi (1995a). Detailed redescription in French in Foldi (2011 and 2020).
