Remarks
- Systematics: In life, the adult female of C. genistae can be distinguished readily from those of C.brasiliensis, C. multicicatrices and C. zeteki by the absence of long tufts on the head and apex of abdomen. (KondoGuPe2016)
- Structure: In life adult female light brown, yellowish at anterior margin; antennae, legs and eyes dark brown, nearly black; dorsal surface covered with waxy secretion, plus wax tufts forming medial, submarginal and marginal longitudinal rows, with tufts longest in middle and ends of each row. Ovisac slightly striated and tapering towards posterior end. (KondoGuPe2016)
- Economic Importance: Crypticerya genistae has been reported as a pest of eggplants, peanuts, peppers and tomatoes in Barbados. In Puerto Rico it has been reported as a devastating pest of soybeans and other legumes. In Florida, hosts currently are restricted to common roadside plants, with no infestations observed in agricultural crops or on ornamental plants. In Colombia, it has been reported as a pest of chili peppers, Capsicum sp. cv. ‘Topito’ (Solanaceae). (Kondo, et al., 2016)
- General Remarks: Detailed description and photograph in T. Kondo & G.W. Watson, 2022b. Magnified anatomical photos in Castillo-Carrillo et al., 2024.
