Remarks
- Systematics: Ortheziid males are distinctive by the shape of head with large, forward protruding, compound eyes, very long and slender antennae and legs, and grayish colouration. The Lebanese species is an obvious ortheziid, but its relationships within the family are difficult to ascertain; in any case, it bears several derived (apomorphic) features which include: small body size, markedly reduced wing venation, entirely reduced halteres, long antennal bristles (some of the features are shared with Newsteadia floccifera (De Geer, 1778) and/or Palaeonewsteadia huaniae Koteja, 1987. Unique is the conspicuous, conical, acute penial sheath, about four times as long as wide at base (less than two times so in other genera) which also can be a derived state. Further suggestions can be proposed after males in other genera will be discovered. (Koteja & Azar, 2008)
- Structure: Minute winged male 660 μm long, but the abdomen is much shriveled and shortened, 180 μm wide at mesothorax. Head broad, 150 μm wide, with pronouncing compound eyes, 60 μm in diameter (Koteja & Azar, 2008)
- General Remarks: Detailed description and photograph in Koteja & Azar, 2008.
