Nomenclatural History

• Coccus rufus Goeze 1778: 344. unidentified species Notes: rufus Goeze 1778: 344, Coccus. Current status: Kirkaldy (1910: 122) listed the species as “Coccus rufus Schrank, 1776 as (see Goeze) probably an Acarid!”. There is no evidence that Goeze knew of Schrank’s work. We regard this species as unrecognisable (Williams & Ben-Dov, 2009: 42).
