Remarks
- Systematics: In 2023, C.J. Hodgson designated a lectotype of C. lumpurensis. The slide found in the National History Museum in London is thought to be the only surviving specimen of this species. The single specimen is broken in two, with the posterior half mounted dorsum upwards and the anterior half, dorsum downwards. It is not very well cleared and is also somewhat damaged. Partly because of its large size and partly due to the damage and large amount of body contents, the exact distribution and frequency of certain structures are not very clear. (Hodgson, 2023) Although Takahashi likened C. lumpurensis to Coccus (Maacoccus) bicruciatus, it bears very little resemblance to that species which is currently placed in Maacoccus. Based on adult female morphology, placement of this species in a subfamily is difficult. However, the key in Hodgson (1994) suggests that C. lumpurensis is perhaps closest to the Filippiinae as currently understood. (Hodgson. 2023
- Structure: “Dark yellowish-brown. Body sub-deltoid, narrowed anteriorly, flattened, nearly similar in shape to C. bicruciatus Green.” (Takahashi 1952) Slide-mounted female body elongate-oval, slightly asymmetric (specimen had possibly settled hard up against a leaf vein), large, 6.0 mm long, 2.8 mm wide; anal cleft possibly with sides adpressed, about 1/8th body length; stigmatic clefts distinct. (Hodgson, 2023)
- General Remarks: Originally described by R. Takahashi and redescribed by Tang (1991), but his description merely repeats what Takahashi said in his original description (Hodgson, 2023). C. lumpurensis was redescribed and illustrated from the lectotype by C.J. Hodgson.
