Remarks
- Systematics: The genus Coccidella Hambleton was synonymized with Rhizoecus by Ferris (1953). Hambleton (1976) accepted this, but indicated that “it may seem desirable to resurrected the genus Coccidella and to name even more.” Later, Kozár & Foldi (2004) revived its generic status. (Kaydan, et al., 2018) The genus differs from all other hypogeic mealybugs by having clusters of trilocular pores of a special structure on the ventral surface of the abdominal segments. There is one species that has a cluster of trilocular pores also in the median area of thorax. (Kaydan, et al., 2018)
- Structure: This genus is characterized by the combination of the following attributes: (i) 5 or 6 segmented antennae, (ii) legs well developed, (iii) dorsum and venter with tritubular ducts, (iv) anal ring with 6 setae, and (v) presence of clusters of enlarged trilocular pores in the mid area of the ventral surface of the body (Kozár & Konczné Benedicty 2007).
- General Remarks: Definition and description by Hambleton (1946a), Kozár & Foldi (2004) and by Kozár & Konczné Benedicty (2007).
